For over twenty years, Able Video and Multimedia has been a leader in Gold Coast video production.

When we first started there were limited options available. Pnuematic SP was the broadcast format and the only way to achieve a high quality look was to shoot on film, pay a fortune to get it telecined to tape and then perform a linear edit with relatively crude character generation tools and  rudimentary audio editing. What you ended up with was garbage by today's standards, but it was all that was available. What never ceases to amaze me is the creativity involved in what was produced during this period. The advent of digital cameras and editing heralded a new era in video production, but some would say it cheapened the art. With the huge cost of film and processing you had to be very frugal with your shots and careful with your planning and preproduction. With virtually no cost these days to do another take or to shoot another angle and with the remarkable tools available, it's true that virtually anyone can produce good quality video.

The Gold Coast has been through some remarkable changes over this period as well. We started out in the white-shoe era, when getting any sort of government work required graft and corruption, with the head of one unlucky video production company (which is still operating) getting caught out and going to jail. Not sure it's changed all that much. In over 20 years we have never gotten any Gold Coast City Council work, despite creating videos for the Gold Coast's leading companies.
